Hello! Welcome to my blog. I am Suja Pisharody, a mom to a 10 year old with Autism and Dyspraxia. I am a certified teacher and have worn many a hat including working in retail, training, books and publishing, freelance writing and of course teaching. However, I realise all of them were preparing me for the most challenging job of my life, raising my son with Autism while still retaining my optimism, sanity and sense of humour.
I have been writing about Autism for many years now, this blog is an attempt to compile all my posts in a single place. This is an account of how my husband Gopan and I are bringing up our son Dhruv keeping his challenges in mind. At times my posts may sound positive, at times funny and at times they may have real angst as Autism is unpredictable and one never really knows how the day unfolds.
People with Autism can learn throughout their lives and more importantly teach us daily. The pace at which they learn is different from neurotypicals and one has to give them the bandwidth to develop at their pace. My son is my biggest teacher and he never ceases to amaze me with his innocence, courage and the ability to pick himself up after falling umpteen number of times.
Why should you read my blog ?
If you are a parent of a child with Autism, I hope it gives you positivity and the knowledge that you are not alone and the courage to be optimistic about the future.
If you are a professional working in the field of special needs especially Autism, I hope it adds to your repertoire from a parent’s perspective.
If you have no personal connect to Autism I hope you learn a thing or two about Autism and are more tolerant towards people with Autism.
I try to look at the silver lining most of the time and as one of my favourite writers J.K.Rowling put it so succinctly in Harry Potter, ” Don’t let the muggles get you down 😊”
